ECDC/PVO HIV/AIDS Surveillance report of the year 2015
ECDC/PVO HIV/AIDS Surveillance has issued their report of the year 2015. Latvia has again the second highest rate of new HIV cases in the EU in 2015. During this year, WHO changed their suggestions about HIV treatments – they suggest to start the treatment right after the diagnostics, and they suggest treating serodiscordant couples. In order to increase quicker HIV diagnostics, ECDC suggest increasing the number of HIV testing – they suggest testing in non-medical facilities and testing at home.
About Surveillance report
Although HIV is preventable through effective public health measures, significant HIV transmission continues in Europe. In 2015, almost 30 000 people were diagnosed in European Union and European Economic Area Member States; a rate of 6.3 cases in every 100 000 people when adjusted for reporting delay.
This report, prepared jointly with the WHO Regional Office for Europe, presents data on HIV and AIDS for the whole European Region, including the EU and EEA countries. Analyses are provided for the EU and EEA region, and also by geographical/epidemiological division of the WHO European Region.
