The European Union’s funded project “Building capacity in prevention of HIV and associated infections among youth at high risk in the Northern Dimension area” has started in September 2013. The project aims to support the work of the NDPHS Expert Group on HIV/AIDS and Associated Infections (AI) in mapping best practices in HIV prevention among youth at high risk of HIV and AI in Northwest Russia and other countries in the Northern Dimension area, disseminating those best practices among the participating countries and training professionals in Northwest Russia to implement the best practices.

The project’s lead partner is the Secretariat of the Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being (NDPHS). The project activities will be implemented in Latvia (Riga) by Baltic HIV Association, in Russia (in St.Petersburg by NGO “Stellit” and in Kaliningrad by NGO “Young Leaders Army”) and in Poland (Warsaw) by Social AIDS Committee. The project partners also are the National Institute for Health and Welfare in Finland and NGO “AIDS-Hilfe Hamburg e.V.”

NGO “Baltic HIV Association” is responsible for the following activities:

  • development of methodology for assessment of needs of young people
  • data collection in subgroups of children and young people at high risk of getting HIV and AI by organizing survey among risk groups
  • organization of focus group discussions with stakeholders
  • information collection on best practices on HIV and AI prevention
  • training on implementation of evidence-based HIV and AI prevention

The project ends in August 2015.
