Dear EHRN Members,
Harm Reduction International (HRI) and Eurasian Harm Reduction Network (EHRN) are pleased to announce that the next International Harm Reduction 2013 Conference (Harm Reduction 2013) will be held on 9th – 12th June 2013 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The key theme of the upcoming conference is “The Value/s of Harm Reduction.” Please find attached the official announcement of the conference.
This conference is the major international event for all those interested in harm reduction and people who use drugs around the world. Harm Reduction 2013 will include high profile keynote speeches, plenary sessions, workshops, film festival, poster exhibition, dialogue space, a dedicated track of events in the Russian language and social and networking events. The main language of the conference will be English but simultaneous translation will be provided in Russian in all plenary and major sessions.
The conference theme “The Value/s of Harm Reduction” will allow the event to concentrate on two key challenges facing the harm reduction movement: (1) the need to increase and sustain donor and government investments in harm reduction, and (2) the need to highlight the human rights and public health values of the harm reduction approach in the face of sustained attempts to reject or undermine its effectiveness. Moreover, the conference aims to increase the presence and role of key affected populations, primarily people who use drugs, in Harm Reduction 2013 and raise awareness of key stakeholders in Eastern Europe and Central Asia on the value of harm reduction. The conference will also be designed to build the advocacy capacity of harm reduction organizations and groups of people who use drugs in advancing and defending human rights of people who use drugs and scaling up evidence-based public health interventions.
EHRN, as HRI’s regional partner in organizing Harm Reduction 2013, would like to encourage EHRN members to submit abstracts to shape the conference program. The abstract submission system for Harm Reduction 2013 is now open. Please click here to learn more about submitting your abstracts. If you would like to submit an abstract for a Russian track please click here. All abstracts must be submitted by Friday 30th November 2012.
